The Amazon Academy comes to Wales

By Lydia Hutton on September 18th, 2018

The Amazon Academy provides free advice and practical support to help SMEs, and this month The Celtic Manor hosted the first one in Wales.

Rn in conjunction with Enterprise Nation, Department for International Trade, Be the Spark Wales, Be the Business and Superfast Business Wales, our CEO, Lee Sharma was invited along with other business owners, to be part of the local business experts hub.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to engage with a large number of local startups in the business zone. It was encouraging to see new businesses from across South Wales enter lively discussion with the experts, chatting one-to-one with aspiring business owners and having their pressing questions answered by other business owners who had lived the experiences they were sharing.

While the workshops had a clear focus on Amazon selling (benefits of which are not to be overlooked - Welsh Business’ exported over £1 million by selling on Amazon - Business Insider), we couldn’t help but notice a real hive of activity in the hall with the onhand experts. The advice offered will be invaluable to the pre-startups and startups, hopefully leaving a lasting impression on the business owners who attended.

Amazon, did a great job bringing the Academy to Wales, and we found ourselves very quickly drawing comparisons on the businesses we spoke with and how their ideas and products could benefit the likes of Amazon in the future.

Along with Amazon, Apple, IKEA, and Accenture, there are many global corporations known for innovating through the medium of innovation labs, with big budgets, where research and development teams have a safe place to channel their entrepreneurial spirit within the security of working for an established organisation.

But are they missing out on the entrepreneurial spirit startups and SME’s bring to innovation? Many of the startups we spoke to had great ideas which, if executed accurately, could rapidly solve the organisational challenges we see faced by many large corporates.

Our platform hosts a number of challenges from private and public sector organisations. If you’re a creative problem solver, you’ll love the engaging content creation and potential new routes to market.

For a limited time, we’re signing up accelerator hubs, incubation centres, pre-startup hubs and co-working spaces free of charge to our innovation marketplace.
